By the time restaurants were closed and the lockdown started in Britain, rats lost lots of food sources, forcing rats to have a bad time through the lockdown. Rats couldn't find another food source except following people into their houses searching for food by hiding in gardens and sewers, and they also became more violent. And when that was not enough, rats started eating each others.
